With a background
in agriculture and two weeks sheet metal work experience, Elroy H. Allen moved his
family to Birmingham in 1957 to open an ornamental iron shop. The business started
in a small house in Tarrant and later moved when Highway 79 expanded to a six lane
road. Even then, the move to the present location was only 1 block away. The emphasis
of the business at this time was custom iron railings, steel stairs, fences, gates
and miscellaneous iron products.
When Mr. Allen retired in 1982, two of his daughters purchased the business continuing
the iron work in the tradition their father set forth. Since then they have expanded
it further in include fine metalwork with the addition of a custom forging shop.
Allen Iron Works & Supply, Inc. offers custom metal work, including iron, bronze,
aluminum, stainless steel, nickel, and even glass.
